Make a video louder
Drop a video that is too quiet. We measure it the way YouTube and TikTok do, bring it up to their level (or by the amount you pick) and hold the loudest moments under the ceiling so nothing crackles. Compare before and after, then download the video with its new sound: the picture is copied, not re-encoded. Quieter and silent work too.
How to use it
- Drop the videoOr an audio file: then you get a WAV.
- Read the loudnessNow shows how loud it is; After shows the result of what you pick.
- Pick how loudPlatform level (-14 LUFS), podcast level, a fixed boost, quieter, or silent.
- Compare and downloadPlay before and after, then download the video with its new sound.
What you can download here
- MP4 with the new soundpicture copied untouched, sound replaced
- WAVthe new sound alone, for an editor
Example: a phone interview that plays too quietly
- Start with
- A 3-minute interview recorded across a room: about -27 LUFS, with door slams near full scale.
- Do this
- Make it as loud as YouTube and TikTok (-14 LUFS), then play before and after.
- You get
- About -14 LUFS with true peaks held under -1 dBTP. The door slams are turned down by the limiter, the voice comes up 13 dB.
A 13 dB boost also lifts room noise. If the hiss becomes obvious, run the background noise remover on the result.
Good to know
Platforms measure loudness over the whole video, not its peaks. A quiet voice with a few loud laughs reads quiet, so a normal volume knob can't bring it up without clipping the laughs; the limiter here can.

Questions
Why not just turn it up by 20 dB?
Turning everything up turns the peaks up too, and peaks above full scale clip: they crackle. A limiter lowers only those few loud moments so the rest can come up. When the boost is very large the result can sound squashed, and the page tells you.
How loud should my video be?
About -14 LUFS for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Spotify, and about -16 LUFS for podcasts. Platforms turn louder uploads down anyway, so going past that gains nothing.
Is the picture re-encoded?
No. The video stream is copied exactly and only the sound is replaced (AAC in Chrome and Edge), in an MP4. To remove the sound, an H.264 picture is copied too; other formats are converted to H.264.
Can it remove background noise?
No: this changes the volume of everything. For hum, fans or traffic, use the background noise remover first.
