Free tools for video editors

The jobs that eat an editor's evening, done in a browser tab: QC an export before it goes to the client, batch-export a clip library with a LUT and the original file names, split the master SRT into one per clip from an EDL or XML, sync a separate recorder without a slate, and deliver a batch of captioned clips as one zip. Nothing is uploaded, so client footage stays on your machine.

The workflow, step by step

  1. 1

    Prep and sync

Line up a separate recorder or second camera by waveform, no slate needed. Grade a whole card of log footage with one LUT.

  2. 2

    Cut faster

Cut dead air and ums to an EDL your NLE imports; mark beats for music edits.

  3. 3

    Subtitles for every version

Fix a client's broken SRT, split the master into one SRT per clip, or time a translated script onto the existing subtitles.

  4. 4

    QC before it leaves

Every frame and sample checked: flash frames, black gaps, freezes, bars, clipping, dropouts, a dead channel, loudness and size. Markers for Resolve and Premiere.

  5. 5

    Deliver

Many captioned clips, their SRTs and a manifest in one zip, with each client's style saved; compress to a size limit for review links.

Questions

How do I check a video for black frames and flash frames?

Drop the export into the video QC checker. It decodes every frame on your computer and lists black flashes, one- and two-frame shots between cuts, frozen picture and black bars with timecodes, plus audio clipping and dropouts. Download the markers for Resolve or Premiere to jump to each one.

How do I batch export clips with their original file names?

Drop the clips into batch LUT and export, pick a LUT or none, keep the {name} pattern and choose a folder: each clip is written there as its own MP4 with its original name.

How do I get one SRT per clip from a master SRT?

Load the master SRT and your EDL, Premiere XML or a list of times into split subtitles. You get one file per clip starting at 0:00, or one file for a recut built from several pieces.
