Mute or bleep part of a video

Something in the sound has to go: a swear word, a full name, a ringing phone or a song you have no rights to. Play to each spot, mark where it starts and ends, and replace it with silence or a bleep. Short fades stop clicks, the picture is copied untouched, and nothing leaves your computer.

How to use it

  1. Drop the videoOr an audio file, which gives a WAV.
  2. Mark each partStart here, End here, Add this part; repeat for every spot.
  3. Silence or bleepListen to the first part before saving.

Good to know

Mark a little before and after a word: a bleep that starts late lets the first sound through.

Questions

How do I bleep out a swear word in a video?

Play to just before the word, press Start here, play to just after it, press End here, then Add this part. Choose "a bleep", listen to it with Hear the first part, and save the video.

Can I mute several parts at once?

Yes: add as many parts as you need; they are listed with their times and all changed in one save.

Does it change the picture or the quality?

No. The video stream is copied exactly into an MP4; only the sound is rewritten, and only in the marked parts.

Can I mute the whole video?

To remove all the sound, Make a video louder has a "silent" option that drops the sound track entirely.
