Questions

How do I convert an ASS file to SRT?

Drop the .ass file and save as SRT. The lines and their times are kept; ASS styling (fonts, colours, positions) has no SRT equivalent, so it is left out.

Can I convert SRT to VTT for a website video player?

Yes: drop the SRT, pick WebVTT, download. Several files at once come back as one zip.

Which formats can it open?

SRT, WebVTT, ASS and SSA, SBV, TTML and DFXP (clock, frame and offset times), LRC lyrics, YouTube's caption XML and JSON3, and transcripts with timestamps like 0:05 or [00:00:05]. Broadcast SCC and EBU STL are not supported yet.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The files are read and written in your browser.
