Video versions from a spreadsheet

One video, many versions: drop the master, paste a spreadsheet (one row per version) and write {column} where a row's words should go, in a title, a lower third, a slate before the video or an end card after it. Every version is rendered in your browser and named from its row, ready for each city, client, store or speaker. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop the master videoThe one cut every version shares.
  2. Paste the spreadsheetOne row per version; the first row names the columns.
  3. Write {column} in the textsIn a title, a lower third, the slate or the end card; the preview shows a row.
  4. Make the versionsEach one is rendered and named from its row, in a folder or one zip.

What you can download here

  • One MP4 per rowH.264 + AAC in Chrome and Edge; WebM in browsers without an H.264 encoder
  • Named from the rowfor example 01-Toronto.mp4, from {n}-{city}

Example: one ad for five cities

Start with
A 20-second ad and a sheet with city, offer and phone for five cities.
Do this
Write {city} in the title, {offer} in the lower third and {phone} on the end card; names {n}-{city}.
You get
Five MP4s, 01-Toronto.mp4 to 05-Halifax.mp4, each with its own words and a 3-second end card.

Every version is a full render: five 20-second versions take about as long as rendering 100 seconds of video.

Good to know

A slate before each version (client, spot, date, version number) is what broadcast and agency deliveries usually ask for; tick Slate before the video and write the columns it shows. The slate and end card run over black with silence under them.

Questions

How do I make the same video with a different city or price for each market?

Put one row per market in the sheet (for example city, price, phone), write {city} and {price} in the texts, and press Make the versions. Each market gets its own file, named by the template, for example {n}-{city}.

Can it add a slate before each version?

Yes: tick Slate before the video and write what it shows, for example {client}, {spot}, {date} and {n}. It runs for the seconds you set, over black, with silence under it. An end card works the same way after the video.

Which spreadsheet formats work?

Paste the rows straight from Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets (tab-separated), or open a CSV file. Commas, semicolons and tabs are recognised; quoted cells can hold commas and line breaks.

How many versions can I make?

Up to 200 rows at a time. In Chrome and Edge each version is saved into a folder you pick as soon as it is done; other browsers download one zip at the end. Every version is a full render, so 10 versions of a 30-second ad take a few minutes.
